Beccles & District Lions Club
We are proud to serve: LODDON, CHEDGRAVE, THURTON, BROOKE, SEETHING, KIRSTEAD GREEN, HALES, KIRBY CANE, ELLINGHAM, GILLINGHAM, STOVEN, THURLTON/NORTON SC., RINGSFIELD, GELDESTON, RAVENINGHAM, BRAMPTON, SOTTERLY, ALDEBY, WHEATACRE, BURGH ST PETER, TOFT MONKS, WORLINGHAM, BARNBY, NORTH COVE ….and all places in between!
Beccles and District Lions Club was chartered in 1969. We operate as a Voluntary Service Organisation and are a Registered Charitable Trust (CIO) number 5175773. The members sole purpose is to help those less fortunate - mainly within the Beccles Area. Our aims are simple:-
Provide Community Service,
Fund-raise to enable us to help those less fortunate, both within our community and further afield,
To enjoy good fellowship and have great fun whilst so doing.

For over 50 years we have gone from strength to strength by following the Lions International mantra “We Serve”. We have been fortunate to have had an enthusiastic and hard-working membership over the years to enable us to fulfil our aims. As with Lions worldwide, we are a really mixed bunch of Women and Men from a wide variety of backgrounds and interests, who have fun and greatly enjoy helping people in our Local Community and beyond.
FUND RAISING
We have a myriad of activities throughout the year to raise funds - here are a few of those you may have seen ‘out and about’:
Our “fast service’ BURGER STALL appears at many functions throughout the year and is available ‘free of charge’ for suitable organised events within about 30 miles radius of Beccles. Good value and delicious Burgers, Hot Dogs, Bacon Rolls and Tea and Coffee with every penny of profit going to Charity.
CAR PARKING: Members often take on the responsibility of controlling the Car Parks at local events and Festivals with the agreed fees all going to Charity.
OUR CHRISTMAS APPEARANCES at most of the local Supermarkets are always popular with the children and everyone’s generosity raises welcome amounts for our Charity funds.
So it’s a very big “Thank You” to everyone who has given so generously. Without your kind donations and support, we would not have been able to have helped either those less fortunate people, or the many deserving organisations in our area over the last 50 years.
HOW CAN WE HELP?
We are more than happy to consider helping individuals - who for example, are experiencing difficulty with getting specialist equipment for in-home nursing care or, for whatever reason are unable to get assistance from their families, Social Services, or other Charities. All Welfare Applications are treated in the strictest confidence, but most will entail a home visit from (normally two) members of our Welfare Committee.
If you are a Local Organisation seeking help with a project which will benefit either the wider local community, or you provide a service for, as an example the elderly or young people - for which no funding is available, please do not hesitate to contact us. We may be able to help, but even if not, we may know “a man who can”.
The whole purpose for the existence of our Club is to serve the people of our area either financially from our funds, or with physical help and advice. We are not a ‘closed’ society or members club - we are just ordinary people who get great satisfaction from helping others.
