Beccles Annual Fun Run
The first of what will become an annual Beccles Fun Run - organised by the Beccles & District Lions Club has been hailed a success.
Held on 2nd September with distances of 3 and 5 kilometres, plus a Children’s 1 kilometre, the runs made use of the unique Beccles Common and historic Avenue - along with the Sports field, to provide what many participants described as one of the most attractive routes they have experienced.
As a Fun Run there were no winners or losers, but over 60 people of all ages set their own targets which many exceeded!
It was a real family event, with Mums and Dads running alongside - and encouraging their Children in their endeavours. Sponsorship was common, with people choosing their own favourite causes.
This year’s Beccles Lions President - Chris Lambert said “right from the start we received great support from both the Town and District Councils, who gave us permission to use the Town’s fantastic facilities. Local businesses as usual were quick to support us including Tesco, Roys, Larking Gowen, Harris & James, Crack Pet Shop, Sportslink, Blackwell Print and Charlotte James Photography. Our sincere thanks go to them and a special mention for the many Dog Walkers on the Common, who found their normal Sunday stroll interrupted - we had great co-operation from all.”
The Fun Run, which was prompted by an idea from Past Lion President - Keith Moore raised over £500 for the Club, which will be used for local community projects and will be repeated next year. The Club - working on this year’s experience are looking to attract an even bigger field of runners by adding new features. The date for the 2019 event will be announced as soon as possible.
